Monday, April 21

11:30 a.m. Arroyo Seco Native Plant Walk, Led by Roger Klemm
East Gate (Limit 30 participants)

Join JPL naturalist and Green Club member Roger Klemm for a leisurely walk up the Arroyo Seco focusing on the native plants in the area. You will experience the beautiful native flora of the Arroyo Seco and see different ways plants have adapted to the long summer drought. The plan is to take an easy walk from the east gate bridge up the Arroyo to the fork in the road at the Brown Mountain Trail junction. Tuesday, April 22

11:00 a.m. — 1:30 p.m. Earth Fair on the Mall – Exhibits and Demonstrations, Alternative Fuel Cars, Outdoor Cafeteria
JPL Mall Earth Science Center Open House (11:00 a.m. — 1:00 p.m.)

Earth-friendly organizations in 16 exhibit booths will be providing information and conducting demonstrations on ways to be kind to our planet.

11 different alternative fuel vehicles will be lined up on the Mall and their owners will be present to chat with you.

From 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. you can visit the Earth Science Center (264-118) and see, “Our Restless Planet”, a new 12-minute, 3D movie featuring JPL Earth scientists.

Culinart brings the grill outside so you don’t have to miss any of the activities. They will be serving up a variety of burgers and homemade chips in eco-friendly, compostable containers.

Caltech Ramo Auditorium
“Dr. Keeling’s Curve”, Starring Mike Farrell

Join the Caltech family and general public in Caltech’s Ramo Auditorium for this poignant one-man show starring Mike Farrell. Farrell portrays Dr. David Keeling, the scientist whose research on CO2 gave the world its first early warnings of global warming. In this highly acclaimed performance, Farrell brings to life the quirky and brilliant man who created the Keeling Curve, the iconic chart that illustrates the rise in atmospheric CO2 levels from 1958 to the present.

11:30 a.m. Arroyo Seco Geology Walk, Led by Tom Farr
East Gate (Limit 30 participants)

Join JPL Geologist Tom Farr for an exciting, easy walk up the Arroyo Seco from the East Gate bridge up the Arroyo to the Pasadena water intake. On this short walk you’ll see a bit of the geology and river processes happening in our backyard, including flooding, terraces, faults, and various rock types.
