What modifications would you make to incorporate "systems thinking" into your classroom instruction?
Impacts of a Warming Arctic
Review your knowledge of different climate forcing factors and feedbacks by reading "Uncertainties: Unresolved questions about Earth's climate" from NASA's Global Climate Change website. What are some possible triggers, or "tipping points," related to feedback processes? Are these triggers able to be fully understood?
Next, examine the lesson plan "Melting Ice Lesson Plan" from PBS LearningMedia, which provides a comprehensive set of resources allowing students to build understanding about the effects of melting ice on people, ecosystems, and climate. Think about how you could modify this lesson plan to include a specific discussion of our Earth system and climate forcings and feedbacks.
Congratulations on completing this module! You have explored techniques, strategies, and readings that will improve your STEM instruction and facilitate students' understanding of global climate change. We recommend that you continue to look for opportunities to use NASA resources and primary data to involve students in relevant problem-based learning.
NASA wants to hear about your experience in this module. Please complete the Short Term Experience - Educator End of Event Survey. This survey is anonymous.
We hope you will consider taking another global climate change module from PBS and NASA and online courses from PBS TeacherLine to increase your knowledge about STEM instruction and global climate change.
PBS TeacherLine, the premier provider of online professional development services for PreK-12 educators, has the goal of making professional development accessible, affordable and engaging for teachers. Our hope is that our courses can help inspire and guide STEM learning at every age and in every discipline.
"PBS TeacherLine not only offers me current, researched information, but the lessons are immediately usable, and transferable into my own classroom."

Ignite curiosity in global climate using the NASA resource "Earth as a System" offered on PBS LearningMedia. Use this video to examine the movement of earth's global systems; discuss factors that might influence these systems - like El Nino; and consider how a change in one system might affect the others.
